Istaravshan – old and historical city

Istaravshan (formerly called Uroteppa, Ura-Tyube) is a city with a long history. His age is more than 2,500 years. Archaeological discoveries of the Stone Age confirm the existence of life on Earth already 100 thousand years ago. By the name of Uroteppa, the city has been known since the 14th century. From its geographical location, it has been at the crossroads of the ancient Silk Road for centuries. The city is home to several centuries-old historical monuments.

Center of National Arts

The city is located in the northern part of Tajikistan, on the foothills of Turkestan ridge at an altitude of 1100 meters above sea level, about 75 km from Khujand. Today the city is the largest center of national crafts in Tajikistan, especially in carpet weaving, pottery and leather. Istaravshan artists are famous not only in Tajikistan, but also abroad.

People come here for health and travel

There are numerous springs of fresh, refreshing water around Istaravshan. The air is rich in UV light. In summer the temperature doesn’t rise above 30 degrees. 25 km from Istaravshan, the hydropathic center of Havatag was built. Different diseases are cured here, based on mineral springs. Havatag sediments produce heat silicon mineral water and some elements of sodium chloride.
